CRANIAL/SACRAL EXPLANATION

I just love this little story I have come up with the explain cranial/sacral technique to people. I think it is clear and takes the mystery out of it.

There is a tough covering over the entire brain and spinal cord called the Dura Mater. It contains all the cerebrospinal fluid but has much greater function that just that. It is attached inside the skull, at very top of the neck and then it is not attached again until you get to the tailbone.

Where it's connected is important. Have you ever heard the expression of a dog "running off with it's tail tucked between it's legs"? That tailbone acts as a lever and pulls the Dura Mater tight Everything from the top of skull to tailbone is pulled together for protection. People do the same thing you just can't see it.

The problem is that this defensive tightness sometimes never completely resolves and is now chronically tight and distorted. This causes a lot of problems. There are various techniques for releasing this dural tension and some cranial/sacral therapists are simply amazing at feeling and restoring the subtle movements of of this system.

We use some of these very gentle techniques as well but have found with kinesiology to detect the problem areas in the dura and the Fulford percussor technique to help release the tension we can get very quick and lasting release of the cranial/sacral tension.
